It clamps to the left fork tube just below the lower triple clamp.

You've got the longer version linear steering damper that mounts more so along the side of the bike. From the picture it seems as though the mount may need to be relocated.

I put it up just below left triple tree and it was binding and would not go from the stop ...tried flipping bracket at fork ...no joy so I was hoping someone had a good picture of how this critter mounts to fork. I think I have the bracket mounted right.

No he does not. He has the only linear steering dampener that Yamaha ever offered for the Seca 750. It does not mount alongside of the bike.

I'm not sure if the pics are still on here, but @Polock has good pics of the damper installed.

    Found the post.

I also found your binding problem. Your heim joint is on the wrong side of the fork bracket.

No worries, and I hope that I didn't offend.
The Seca 750 steering damper is very distinctive, but if you've never seen one it can be difficult to see how it's supposed to work. In '83 they switched to a rotary damper, but I'm not sure if they had a reason other than cost.

Okay looked at Pollocks pictures and installed on center stand moved from lock to lock with no binding . Hopped on and barely made it around the block was oscillating...since I just changed head bearing to tapered thought I might have an issue so removed it and handled normal . So I will have to look at it closer.

Whoo fixed it I bought 2 stabilizer except one did not come with the mounting bracket at frame . The one I bought with the brackets the bearing is very stiff so put the other one on and works great only rode about 2 miles but cranked it up to 55 felt good ...next week temp is supposed to hit 80 hope to take it out and see if this was worth it but it looks so cool ...

It'll prove its worth once you hit 80 in a gusty crosswind.

Speaking of its worth, where are you all obtaining the goodness of steering stabilizers from?

    Had found this: http://www.spec2.com/damper.html

Not entirely certain of their business standing as of 2018.

This is the factory steering stabilizer for the Seca 750. eBay Germany is also a good source for parts.

Any other stabilizers will probably need to have brackets fabricated for them, since nobody is making direct-fit stabilizers for the XJ series at this time.

Hey k-moe, how/where does that factory 1983 stabilizer fit and perform its function? I've seen the factory diagram and images of the stabilizer, but I'm completely clueless as to how it operates? It seems like a hollow disc of some type? Where does the spline go?

I haven't ever had one in my hands, but it's supposed to be the same as the one for the rd350(?). There is a tab on the steering neck and the steering stem is splined. If I remember correctly it has a series of discs and works like the the rotary friction dampers fitted to early motorcycles.

The reason it was oscillating the bearing barely moved in rod end so steering would not move very easy now it is sorted out ... now looks like Sunday will be in 60's I can take it out and see what it really does. So far it felt really stable only hit 55 but liked the feel and really notice with the tapered bearings makes a huge difference. When I pulled forks and handle bars you could really feel the bearings had a notch feel to them.
