Would a stock air filter box from a 1984 model be the same as an 1981 model (yamaha xj550 seca) trying to get rid of the dreaded pod filters

Thanks for the reply . I'm from over the pond in the UK as far as I'm aware the xj550 81 seca is European spec and the seller of the air box is in Germany he describes the box from an 84 model . I've asked him weather it will fit he replied saying he thinks it will . Just want to be sure before ordering. I know the maximum and seca are not interchangeable and the photos look like it's from a seca, thanks for any input.

I too have a xj550 uk model and have pods fitted which I want to bin and go back to the original airbox and filter however obtaining the right box has been challenging to say the least!

there are later models of the 550 than 83 in uk/europe . the best thing to do is go to a dealership and have them look up the part number for the 84 if the box was not changed it will be the same number

do you have access to a online dealer? we use ones like www.yamahapartsnation.com or partszilla.com and it cross references the part numbers with what other models it will fit.
