Yesterday I jumped on the freeway, and got up to about 70mph and it seemed like that was about as fast as I could go without pushing the RPMs up really high.

I have no tach, so I don't know what the RPM's were but at 70, it sounded very high, almost like I should have a higher gear if I needed to go faster, especially if I was going to go any kind of distance.

    Does this seem right?

Top speed is 122mph. Dont be afraid to push the rpm's. These bikes dont redline until 9.5 rpm. Just make sure you are in 5th gear by counting the gears.

70mph should be around 6000-7000 rpm. I've had mine to 110 mph that was pushing it hard.

Yeah... it like rpms... give it more!

You will accelerate a hell of a lot better if you keep the RPM's up while you're bouncing through the gears too.

I would now, at the risk of being flogged, like to point out that the Max does 70 in second gear :)

I seem to recall that one of the criticisms of the XJ650 when the were released is that they were a bit flat at low revs and needed higher revs - then there was plenty of ooomph!
