Did some quick searching around, and though I couldn't find anyone actually reviewing the tires, I found a few posts on forums from people saying that they're actually a pretty fair tire.

'course, for my bucks, I'll spend a few more for a good brand name that's been tried and found good. Choice depends on your riding style though...

No prior experience. With tires, you get what you pay for.

That's what I figured i've been looking at dennis kirk and i've found a set of Avon's AM26 for about $150. I think im gonna go with 130/70v-18 and the stock 100/90v-19. I would have to use the universal tire for the front. But that should not cause a problem. I would like to find a lower profile front but I have seen none. Thanks for the info.

Dunlop makes a real nice tire for the maxims. I have them on my XJ650. They are model D404

I had considered those but I am looking for something that will give me more grip,as I do a lot of back road, and mountain riding.

Well I can certainly vouch for the Avon's then - assuming they're anything like mine. Previously I've had a set of Avon AM21 Roadrunner's on my Maxim, and those were the best damn tires I ever owned. Gripped the road like velcro - even when I was grinding footpeg in the corners. Shed water like a duck. Lasted a good 20k too.

I have a set of street sharks on my maxim, I got them at americanmototire.com. The price is right and I've had nothing bad to say about the grip or wet performance of the tires. I will buy another set when and if they are still available for my bike. I have had them to the edges of the tread at speed and had no problems breaking loose. There are no chicken strips on my tires.

Well wanted to update the tires, just got caught in the rain for the first time with this bike. Tires gripped great, no sliding. Kudos to Avon
