OK, I've browsed the forums regarding thread repair; time-certs vs helicoils. But now, I'm wondering the difference between knurled heli-coils vs traditional. I'm assuming the knurled helicoil is the correct application for fixing a spark plug thread because it will not fall in: http://www.pepboys.com/product/details/9871131/01036

I read around about people using red Loctite to hold the 'regular' helicoils and prevent them from going into the hole. I also don't like the idea of breaking off that 'tang', the part where you use to thread it in as in: http://www.3wheelerworld.com/showth...Threads!!!-A-how-to-on-Heli-Coil-installation.

Use the knurled ones specifically for spark plugs.

Here's a trick too. Turn your crankshaft so the piston of the cylinder needing repaired is at tdc. Take cotton clothesline, soak it in motorcycle oil. Pack it in to fill up as much room as possible. Tap your helicoil using a poop-ton of grease. Pull out the clothesline. Lots of metal bits will be attached. Feed in clean oil soaked line again + repeat until it comes out clean.

That is a great idea with the cotton clothes line. It also says to use RTV silicone on the helicoil. Can i substitute this for something else?

Thanks for sharing - I may need to do this in a while - I'm going to try and repair the cross threaded one first and see. If that goes south this will be very handy.
