Hi guys, I only ever seen to post when there is a problem so he is another one on the 80 xj650...i had a fuel leak that I fixed the other day (bad o-ring on transfer tube between carb 1 and 2) and now I am getti g a lot of surging at idle, high idle 2,200 rpm hot, and rpm hanging at 6-7000 unless I lug the engine down in high gear when stopping. I was thinking I may have cracked a carb boot when i took the carb rack out but would like some confimation before pulling the carbs again. I am thinking it is a lean condition due to vacuum leak but I didn't think that would cause the high rpm hanging.
Anyone have any ideas if I am on the right track or other things to look for? I only pulled carb 1 from the rack to fit the o ring and didn't change any of the adjustments on the carbs.
    Thanks for the help!

Lean from an air leak can apparently cause rpm hanging. To identify air leaks, when running, squirt starter fluid or WD40 around areas that might have cracked to see if it changes the idle.

Others with more experience may want to weigh in.

You have a vacuum leak , and carbs maybe out of synch...it you have popping in the exhaust there is your sign ...it can be at idle or coming off of throttle down to idle .
