I Seem to have a Suzuki GS250 Tr Igniter installed in my XJ400 which apparently i bought just recently, So i was wondering the obvious set backs it has created overall on the machine & what improvements shall one achieve by installing the original one?

    Thanks.

Direct plug in or was the harness hacked into? If the ignitor pluged in your probably ok.

By igniter do we mean the TCI? Isn't the advance curve controlled by the TCI?

Could explain the pinging problem referenced in another post.

Robert, Seem's to me as a Direct Plug-in but i'll post some high-resolution pics later on just to make sure :)

MiCarl, The Label on it says, TR IGNITER, By Suzuki, The GS250 text apparently is written by a ink marker seperately.

The bike had been running flawlessly prior it got serviced, Seem's unlikely for a faulty Igniter i believe, Water finding a way in & destroying it would be an other issue though.

Do Igniter's Weaken just like Plug coils generally do after a certain passage of time.

    Thanks.

That's electronics they go when they want to, can work great one minute and go to hell the next.

Yep, electronics tend to drop suddenly. Typically without warning. TCI's are pretty reliable but can develop cold solder joints on the Integrated Chips (IC's) from vibration. Pop it open and using a 25Watt soldering iron and some flux-cored solder, reflow each of the solder connections. Should there be evidence of water intrusion, it will kill the unit so here is to hoping you didn't get it doused. Voltage to the wrong places on the unit will fry it.
