    Hey guys,

This is my first post and I will try to make sure all the necessary information is on here...if it turns out I have forgotten anything please let me know.

    Quick backstory:
I purchased a rust bucket 1981 550 MAXIM that barely runs and this will be my first motorcycle I have built. I have it completely disassembled, engine and all. Getting ready to start sending parts off to be painted, modified, etc. Biggest issue I have, I hate the '81 550 MAXIM fuel tank. I was wondering if I could swap an 81' 550 SECA tank in place of it. (like the 13 and company 550 seca cafe racer)

If anyone has any information on this please let me know!

(This is going to become a cafe racer so seat, side panels, handlebars getting in the way shouldn't be an issue as all of these will be modified, replaced, or custom made)

    Thanks guys!

All but 1 of pictures of their bike, it’s always on center stand and even then, you can see that tank is slanted down. I lowered front mounts and tased rear mount and tank ended up being perfectly leveled with maybe 1-3* up at the back end.

Thanks guys. Also thank you for the advice on leveling the tank. That was another aspect I was curious about.

if you remove the side reflectors on maxim, the tank will slide to far forward and be hit by triple tree. you have to watch that spacing.
flat steel bar for the rear to extend mounting hole on frame back enough to secure rear of tank.
