what can I do for a more comfortable seat.

I could open it up, change some foam? add a bit of gel pad?

is there an aftermarket that still exists?

or perhaps an OE that is more supportive from another model that swaps over?

longer rides my butt goes numb. I am used to a firm blank like seat (sport bikes) this is a bit mush. im not after a buck board heard but long haul comfort.

I have the same bike, and I feel your pain! I have looked into this myself and it doesn't seem like there are currently any aftermarket seats for these being produced. Used ones pop up here and there on eBay, but can be expensive, especially if they are in good condition. I think your best bet is to try and modify your current one. There is a great site that goes over the whole process that was posted here before:http://www.diymotorcycleseat.com . I figure that is what I'll eventually end up doing, but I have to get the bike running again before the seat becomes an issue.

I used this website as a guide for my turbo seca seat.

Oops, missed the reply. I guess I'll second it then! I went into a foam store and asked for advice on foam. Went to a Joann Fabrics store for thread and marine grade vinyl and made myself a seat cover too.

about those gel pads, when it's cold they get cold and stay cold, when it's hot they get hot and stay hot. they need to be under some foam.
i used carpet pad in layers on my seat, installers give scraps away. it comes in different firmnesses ask around, tell them it's for a motorcycle seat, they'll think you're nuts :)

So what I'm hearing is I will need to modify this. No problem. And you're saying a firmer seat will mean Less numbness? Alright.

I will reuse my cover as it's about as nice as something that old can be.

I am no stranger to upholstery work. But was hoping for a seat swap.

You can get a different top, and mount it onto your pan. They look more like a Goldwing double-bucket type seat. Go to Ebay.....or ask around. Saddleman also has them. You just don't have to get creative with the underneath to get it to fit your pan as best as you can.

You can also (if you want to spend the money) send your seat off to any of the custom seat makers and they will do the work. Just because it's not advertised on their site does not mean that they will not do the work. I happen to like the Corbin that I have, and they will make me a new one (or re-make my current one) when the time comes.

You can also check with the local custom bike shops and see who they use locally as well as any of the local motorcycle clubs. Even the racing guys (if you have racing clubs) have seats custom made for their race bikes, that's how I found out about a few local places to me.

    Agreed, it's for a 750 midnight Maxim. But, '84?

I just got back from a 2500 mile trip. I used a wooden bead seat cover. It works great for me.
