    didn't want to hi-Jack Johnny and June's thread. . . .
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Fwiw, I did have one xj700 that would idle high IF:
    It was in the upper 80's or higher And The bike was well warmed up
    There was a solution, but never a cure, not any identifiable cause.
    That is very curious.
    I wonder if it could be the tci unit on Hogfiddles bike. tci controls spark and advances and retards timing. it the timing part thought it was (hung) at an rpm level or locked at that level of timing and would not change and the spark timing would dictate a higher speed and draw gasoline through the CV carbs
    pilot jets would be enough to feed 2k to 3k with slides lifting due to the vacuum forcing gas past partly closed butterfly
    heat does affect ic's and transistor
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    How would one test for an adverse effect of heat on ic's and transistor's (tci).
    Keep in mind that electricity is magic mojo to me.
    I have got a multi- meter and a 'can do' attitude and that's about it.

    You could take a hair dryer and warm it up and see if it does anything.
    I would pop the cover and look for cracked solider joints, before any
    Thing else though.

    when testing you can use cold spray to test as inverted can of computer cleaner spray will work.

    you do have to spray it into the box on components

    Ride it in the winter. If the problem does not occur then just keep it as a winter bike ;)

    try using a timing light ,see if the advance /retard , firing point alters at higher temperature.

    Heat within the design spec of the TCI would not have any effect on semiconductors. Heat effects on things like TCIs are usually due to bad caps (looks like there are some small electrolytics in there), or cracked solder joints or traces.

    I'll do a visual to kick things off.

    Moved from a growing zone of 5b to 3b (at the farm) - might be good to have a winter bike . . . .
