Bought new regulator/rectifier, alternator, starter relay and fuse box from Len. I'm not getting anything at black ground going into regulator connection. In turn, there is no continuity at 4,5 and 6 diodes at regulator. The red and white wires test fine. Horn works, flashers work, tail light works, nuetral switch works, brake pilot light comes on when I tried to start it. Got "click" at solenoid. Have "weak" spark at 4 new plugs. Got compression at all 4. Valve clearances are in spec. Cams set to TDC. Bike almost turned over then dumped fuel from the airbox...again. Help. After I finished the top-end it started nicely. Took it out for a spin to let everything settle and re-check the valve clearances and get ready to colortune the plugs and vacuum gauge the carbs. I knew I had an electrical problem somewhere then this....Now it won't even start.

    Thanks,

    Gary

Sounds like a flat battery or a solenoid issue. What happens if you jump the two big terminals on the solenoid (besides the shower of sparks?) The starter should spin.

Got the shower of sparks. Cranks but won't turn over. This is a new battery. I put the acid in it myself and charged it using a new 1.5 charger I bought from Len. I don't have a hydrometer yet. Should I re-charge it?

So it will turn over when the terminals are jumped; but only clicks at the solenoid when you push the button?

No, it does the same thing...it turns over but won't start.

It does seem like the battery is weak. The oil light is night showing bright red when I push the switch. Just curious...this battery has been on a charger showing a "green" light for a couple days now. Would it lose it's charge that quick? What about the fuel in the air-box? I removed the oil filler plug and there is no stinch of fuel mixing with the oil so I'm hoping fuel is not being dumped into the cranckcase. I pulled one of the plugs...it was dry.

Make sure choke is full on and jump start using a car battery and report back please. Are you getting spark at the plugs?

Hold on. You get the oil light when you hit the button, and hear a "click?"

Are you SURE the "click" is coming from the solenoid, and not one of the relays?

If it's a relay clicking and the oil level light comes on when you hit the button, IT THINKS THE SIDESTAND IS DOWN AND IT'S IN GEAR.

That would be a safety circuit problem. Are you SURE it's sparking? If the safety circuit is "deployed" the TCI will be grounded and it won't let it fire the plugs, even when you spin it by jumping the solenoid terminals.

If the click is truly coming from the solenoid, then you've got something going on with the battery. Fully charge it, pull it and take it to the auto parts and get it tested.

I charged the battery, opened the chokes almost all the way and it started;however, when I close the chokes it dies.

    Thanks,

If it dies when you close the choke (enrichment circuit) it sounds to me like it isn't getting enough fuel when the EC is closed. That would suggest that the normal channels of the carbs are not working/providing enough fuel to the mix. If the float was stuck, I don't think it would help opening the choke as it pulls its fuel from the same bowl and dry is dry, it doesn't matter which teat to try to pull from.
