So yesterday, I finally talked myself into trying to synchronize the carburetors for a second time after the first time was a huge failure and I dropped the bike in the process.

This is the result of your advice and help and my determination.

I've never worked on bikes before, and before reading all your guides and advice, I could not have even pointed to what the carburetor was. Now I've rebuilt the fuel petcock, cleaned and rebuilt the carbs, replaced the starter motor and adjusted all the shims.

I still need to colortune the plugs, rebuild the front and back brakes, clean and repair the connectors on the left turn signal (doesn't blink, just lights up) and then it will be on to the cosmetic side of things.

MY BIKE HAS NEVER RUN THIS WELL. Even when I first picked it up, it started but not easily and it didn't idle smoothly at 1,200 rpms like it's supposed to.

Thank you very much for helping this not motorcycle repair experienced guy get his bike back up and running.

Also, please ignore the mess in the garage, I'm currently remodeling a bathroom and it's just a huge mess on that side. The other side is clean, I promise.

    Dzjenky,

You and I are in the same place and I totally understand how you feel. My engine really started to growl after replacing shims and I haven't even gotten to the carb sync. Even my wife commented on how it now sounds.

This is by far the best and most helpful forum. Without it I wouldn't have know there were shims to replace!

The difference in the sound of one of these engines when all maintenance has been performed, carbs "church of clean" cleaned and rebuilt, bench sync'ed, floats in spec, running vacuumed sync'ed and then the carbs colortuned is the difference between Luciano Pavarotti and Elmer Fudd singing the same opera. All the sounds are there...just one sounds so much better:)

Good luck and keep going, you will be glad you did.

(wait unit you hear her between 7 and 8 thousand rpms and climbing as your going through the gears...goose bumps....)
