The horn mystery

    Well it is to me.

    Should my 1981 XJ750 have one horn or two? I have two horns in my possesion that aren't the flat type but have the scooped entrance (not a great description I know). Some areas suggest that there was a hi and low tone horn wheres Haynes is not very helpful at all.

    Could the learned please suggest what is correct. I do like the idea of the twin horns so I guess if the wiring loom has the connections for two that would be the way to go..

    Wiring diagram for 750RH shows 2 horns, says they're smaller than usual and mounted *inside* the headlamp nacelle :? I'd guess after this amount of years the wiring could have been hacked but you never know. The horns can just be wired together in parallel (power & earth to first horn, extra wires to take power/earth from first to second) if there's only wiring for one, that's how the diag. shows them

    All 4 of mine had 2 horns . two xj750 rh 1981 and two xj750 rj 1982

    Interstingly enough when I looked at the two horns in the box that came with the bike they are definitely left and right side horns.

    Two it is then!!
