    after owning my bike for 3 years, i've finally starting making changes to it. So far all I've changed is putting a drag bar on, as well as fork boots.
    I'm very pleased with both. I have a lot left to do, though. Firstly, as the pictures show, this bike needs some serious cable management. I was unable to ride for almost two weeks, due to various mechanical problems, and so basically have not done any rerouting of the various cables. I do have a cafe fairing on order, which will cover the front, so I really only need to figure out how to reroute the throttle cable in a way so that it doesn't stick 8 inches out to the side. I also raised my forks slightly, and between that and the handlebars, WOW. it feels like i'm sitting on a sportbike, and cornering is amazing.
    on top of cable management, i also really need to find a master cylinder from a seca (i keep getting outbid on ebay). the maxim one doesn't mount right on straight bars, plus i got one of my mirror mounts stuck, and i don't really want to cut it off, and i really don't want to get impaled on it if i wreck. but, for now the bike is ridable, until i get time to change it again.

    any comments or suggestions are very welcome.

    Looking good but I'll have to pick on a few safety points. That master cylinder needs to be replaced on those bars. Running on that angle leaves no room for low fluid levels as the plunger feed hole is on the middle of the reservoir.

    Brake line is too tight. Runs the risk of splitting internally and externally.

    I would look at Seca type replacements. Most yamaha models have similar M/C's and bars.(XS,SR etc) Try and get a replacement clutch bracket as well to get the mirror mounts even.


    Apart from that it looks good. Do the new bars give plenty of clearance on the tank?

    I made some drag bars for my XS the other day and had to make them higher to clear the tank on full lock.

    Throttle cable should be able to reroute over the headlight bracket without too many problems. Just make sure it stays free and doesn't kink.

    i'm going to a cycle salvage tomorrow in hopes of finding a master cylinder from a seca or similar model. also planning on fixing the brake line, and every other cable i can possibly reroute.

    i'm thinking of raising the drag bars, as they do hit the tank sides at full lock, though i'm not at full lock very often.

    as for the mirrors, i'm thinking of switching to bar end mirrors, but we'll see.

    Over the years i got to notice those type of bars were a good cause for the wobbles at speed , these days no one speeds :) so i gather you will not have to worry...

    Clean bike looks OK.

    update: rerouted all cables, brake line now curves much more gently. stuck mirror mount removed. much prettier, and everything still works right.

    master cylinder will be fine unless it leaks. i rebuilt it when i bought the bike; it should be good for a while yet. i DO want to get it changed to a mc that sits parallel with the handlebars, but my coffers are currently running low, so i'll have to make due.

    unfortunately i had to rip the bike apart again due to a leaking front fork (garage's fault, so i don't have to pay much, just means no bike till it's fixed). what a sad sight to finish a ride and see a puddle of oil under the forks.

    <b>HooNz</b> i haven't noticed any wobbling at speed, however, between the time i put the forks back on and today when i pulled them back off, i've only had 2 rides that went over 60mph.

    my next major priority is changing all of the carb boots. all are cracked, and though spraying gas on them produces no changes in rpm, i still suspect that replacing them would make the bike run smoother.
