does anybody off the top of their head know the length of a stock 1981 Xj650 Throttle cable? I got a aftermarket Throttle assembly and my cable is too short so it hold my throttle halfway open when it should be in the closed position.
    Thanks

There's no guarantee a stock cable wouldn't have the same issue.

The KEY to control cable length is not so much the overall length of the cable (although it does matter) what is MORE important is the "ratio" of inner cable-to-outer sheath. In other words, the "free" length of the inner cable past the sheath.

This is NOT standard, it varies from bike-to-bike; clutch cables vary the most because of all of the different versions of the release mechanism.

So if a stock cable doesn't have enough "free inner cable" then it won't work with your aftermarket assembly.

Sometimes you wizards really piss me off. Just kidding, you always show me or remind me of something I wasn't thinking of that would cost me more money otherwise, or my life, thanks.

HCP2691 OEM original THROTTLE CABLE, with black curved metal tube, and adjuster nut, at the throttle end of the cable, for all XJ650 Maxim and 650 Midnight Maxim models. Wire length = 42" Sheath length: 39-1/4"

Note that the above "wire length" is measured from end barrel-to-end barrel.
