Sure, but which XJ are you working on? The throttle linkages are not all the same.

The rearmost cable in this pic is the throttle cable. It goes into the cable sleeve holder (the part that screws onto the top-hat) last.

Thhe throttle linkage is in the center of the pic below (sticking forward). It has a round hole and a slot. The linkage arm must be set vertical first (tis bit can be tricky since the linkage arm has a hinge in the middle). The ball end of the cable then goes into the linkage hole by aligning the cable with the cutout and sliding it into place, then rotating the cable upward into the slot. (Yes guys, I know those are not the correct carbs, but the linkage is in the same place :) )

The cable then gets lifted so the sleeve can be inserted into the cable sleeve holder (there is a slot in the holder for the cable to pass through. Make sure that the sleeve is fully seated into the holder or the throttle bodies will be held open ust enough to make the engine race at idle. Also make sure that the throttle cable is well lubricated.
