Extremely frustrated with my xj650 maxim. I took the Carb apart and cleaned it after I was having issues. Once put back together it screams full throttle every time I start it. I tryed the throttle line and the idle screw......nothing. could it be a sticky cable or sticky slides in the carbs? Because I just cleaned it I have no idea. Please help.

    Thanks

    Tony

I was having some idle issues that are apparently related to carburetors being out of synch. Have you tried bench-synching?

+1 - bench syching definitely a top priority..

Also, I had a similar issue after a rebuilt my carbs and found that I had the clamp rotated on the carb-to-motor boot for carb 3 & it was causing the throttle linkage to hang up at WOT. Check all of you cables & linkage and make sure you didn't switch the throttle & "choke" cables... there was a guy on here just a week or two ago that did that.

    Good luck!

Embarrassingly enof I mixed up the throttle and coke cables, feel like a dumbass but anyways now I'm having troubles with my starter....its not even turning over anymore. Any know were I can look up the wireing diagram? I think I might have the solenoid wired wrong. It was clicking before I took the starter motor apart and cleaned it up. One thoer question....dose the post on the starter have to be snug or lose? Not sure how the self grounding works.

Hi Tony, the starter is grounded by the bolts that are used to hold it down. And the post where your positive lead attaches should be snug, not loose. you can find a wiring diagram here on the site by going to the XJForever logo, there are all kinds of tutorials in there.
