top of fork circlip

    hey gamaru, or anyone else for that matter... I cant seem to get the circlip under the top cap (by the air valve) out... do you have any suggestions on getting that bugger out? tools? method? thanks! PS.. cant find the vise in all my moving boxes (just moved this wkend), so im using a friend to push down... will this present a problem? THANKS!

    I would use a long 1/2" drive socket extension with a suitable socket to clear the schrader valve and depress the cap, then a scribe (or ice pick) to pick out the clip. Loads of fun!
    Make sure to support the front of the engine with a jack or block (with center stand down), to take the preload off the front end.

    tigerextra, I used a pal (my son) pushing on the valve plate with a 12" long hardwood dowel. One end was drilled out with a bit a size larger than the valve stem and in about 3/4". The dowel slipped over the valve yet was small enough that two small flat blade screwdrivers could free up and pick out the circlip as he kept pressure on the plate.

    Worked like a charm, two clips out in under a minute. The socket and extension idea above works, too but the wood doesn't mar anything.
