How much pressure should I have to apply to the clutch handle to engage it? Right now it takes more pressure than what I would use to crush a drink can. Is this the norm?

The cable may need to be lubed. The also get tough when they start to fray at the ends.

Either that or the cable is kinked or got routed too close to the pipes and now the inner sheath liner has melted.

Flush out and lube the cable; check to be sure it's "smoothly" routed; inspect for breaks or tears in the outer sheath that can let moisture in/promote rust; diassemble the lever from the perch, clean and re-lube the pivot bolt and lever.

If none of that works, replace the cable.

thanks for the help. I'm going to hook up the IV soon. Thinking about running some rubbing alcohol through it first to help break up anything that may be in there. Then with the oil. I did do a quick inspection of the cable yesterday didn't see any breaks or where it was kinked.
