So at the end of June, I'm going to start going on some pretty long rides. The first of which being Dust to Dawson (the history of this ride is on page 7 here: D2D)

What I want some opinions on are:
    - What should I get for rear shocks that can carry a load (~400#'s including me).
    - Anyone have a lead on a decent windscreen, pref. a medium sized universal one.
    - How about extra fuel...I only seem to get about 125 miles/tank. Should I build my own bag carriers with jerry can holders?

    Thanks, Ben

I saw pictures around here somewhere were someone just bungee'd a few gas cans to a truck rack and that seem'd to do them fine.

There was just a recent thread on shields. in XJChat.

The National Cycle Street Shield EX was one of the recommendations. I picked on up on ebay for $92 but have not had a chance to intall it yet to give my read.

For shocks, I have been looking at some options. The progressive 412's in HD may work. They are recommended for riders over 200#'s or if a passenger is regularly carried. However, at your predicted weight, air shocks may be a better alternative so that you can adjust them. One of the guys picked up a set off of a website for $100 + $20 for a shock pump.

They actually sell reserve gas tanks that strap to your sissy bar.
There was a thread on them here too.

Ben, you willmost definelty want some aux fuel tanks of some sort. I drove the Alcan twice and would not recommend going without. fuel stations in the Yukon are few and far between. Never pass up an opportunity to fuel up.

AL....I think I may have been the one mentioned about the shocks. I got mine from www.jirehcycles.com on the Harley side. About $110 for the shocks and they have a pump that sells on ebay for about $25 for $19.99 that you can pick up its a compact little thing and made for putting air in air shocks.

I got the heavy duty shocks...rated at 176psi. Should be just what you're looking for with a bit of overkill...heck you can always adjust the air pressure to adjust the ride.

I myself am still looking at windshields...may consider the EX mentioned.
