Prior to issue my oil level got low, not so low that my oil light came on.

In between gear changes, I need to "wiggle" the shifter to "reset" it. If I do not do this, it will not shift up or down.

    Any ideas?

I had a problem with first gear popping out. Turned out to be too much back & forth play of the shifting post. The post has a partial gear that meshes with another partial gear that actuates the shifting. Any play will make the 2 gears not mesh. I fixed mine with a thin washer between the post and the engine case.
You'll have to drain the oil, remove the shift lever and then remove the access plate to find out what's going on inside.

could be an issue with one of the springs in there too.

From the sound of things, it probably is. Most likely the centering spring is broken in its coil, and although it still "resists" the shifter, it's got no "oomph" left.

The other possibility is that the "resetting" is actually jiggling a big hunk of disintegrating primary chain guide around; but that won't be a possibility until we have a peek at the shifter "mousetrap."

Pull the transmission/shifter cover and let's have a look.
