turbo starting probs (electrical)

    i have a 1982 xj650lj and have not been able to start the blasted thing without useing a screwdriver (shorting out the starter relay) i have checked the switches relays and the problem still happens when i hit the starter button i get not a thing yet the buttton is in good condition i took it apart and cleaned it and all the conections ( i also followed the write up you have on starting system troubleshooting) i have replaced the starter relay cleaned all connections and am at a loss ( will the nutuerl( spelling) switch do this if so i am at a loss for that one too i have tried finding the darn thing and its not where most bikes put them ( on the top of the tranny if anyone can tell me where this sensor is i can check that out also , any info would be a great help thanks all

    The starting circuit (off the top of my head) requires the following:


    1. Bike should start if -bike in neutral, kill switch disabled

    2. Bike should start if -bike in gear, side stand is up, clutch pulled in


    So, check your kill switch, side stand circuit (switch and relay), clutch switch.

    Hope this helps.
    Neutral switch is located on the left hand side of the bike (while sitting on it) behind the frame bar where the side stand attaches. You have to get right under the bike to see it as it is recessed quite deeply.

    i have checked the sidestand and clutch switchs but not the kill switch yet thanks will check that tomorrow morning ( this problem has been bugging me for the last year and the whol;e circuit is darn near brand new now)
