Hello gents, Long time lurker first time poster.

I have a problem that Im sure the collective minds here can no doubt help me with. My XJ650 Maxim's turn signals don't come on anymore.

I have no idea where to plug them back into. I took them off because i wanted to spray paint them but i was so excited because this is was my first bike i forgot to pay attention to which wire these signals connect too.

I know the front ones work for sure. When I plug them into a red wire they come on and wont come off or do anything really. just kinda hang out. and the back ones where working just fine before i unplugged them

If anyone has any ideas where to plug them in or wiring diagrams or just a push in a general direction that would be great.

Edit: From what i can tell the wiring looks completely stock i can post pictures after i get home from work if it helps

One wire plugs into either a green or "chocolate" (not brown, and I'm not kidding) wire (depending on the side the signal's on, I forget and my book's at home too) and the other wire plugs into the "common" cluster-connector of black wires in the shell (or back in the tail.)

Bottom line is, the signal leads are green for one side, "chocolate" for the other side, with black ground wires, which generally plug in together.

I STRONGLY seggest you get a service manual, or at least a wiring diagram. Just plugging random leads into a "red wire" is asking for trouble. You're gonna let the smoke out, and we all know what that means...

That is correct. Chocolate & black one side, green and black the other.

You might want right / left colors to match :)

Fyi: stock setup, they won't blink until front and back are plugged in.

Plugs should be under seat neat the back. (Well they are for my 750).

650 should be the same way. Plugs should be about half way between the tail light and the fuse box, under the seat, on top of the rear inner fender.

Oh, and it's Dg (dark green) for the right side, Ch (dark brown) for left, and the grounds will plug into the black DOUBLE female plug.

I bought 3 wire turn signals; red, black and black with white strip from bike master online can i still make it work even though my xj650 is supposed to be wired for two according to this?

    http://xjdiagrams.thundervalleypower.com/

There are two black wires, both with double female bullet terminals. Does that mean each turn signal gets one ground with both black and black with white wires or is that just asking for blown fuses?

One wire is hot, for turn signals.
One wire is ground, for grounding the light.
The other is hot wire for running lights. Some XJs had running lights, some didn't. You don't need to hook this wire to anything for your signals to work.

But you should cap it off so nothing gets shorted out by accident.

I would guess the black with the tracer is the running light - easy to test.

You need an 1157 bulb with a 27W rating on the "brake" element to make all the systems happy.

It would be easy for you to have running lights on your bike. I'd make a separate feed to the headlight, so the 4 lights are "off" while cranking.
