84 xj750 is the ride. the problem is it has now destroyed 2(two) universal joints. i have another on hand but want to know has anyone come up with a solution to lubricting these mongrel things so as to stop this from happening again. one thought i had was to cross drill it and then tap a grease nipple into it. but after reading some other thoughts in here about that, forget that idea. my next thought is to drill a small hole into each end cap and pump them with htb grease then plug the holes with rubber grommets. youe thoughts and suggestions please people

I looked at your gallery... and you have a 900 seca frame with a 750 engine.... maybe a little different

One thought is to check for a possible mis-alignment.
The grease should be some kind of "moly" or top shelf synthetic.
At worst, these "U" joints should be cheap, as they never fail.

    Very unusual.
    Very, very unusual.

I'd be looking for something loose causing the U-Joint to have unusual stresses placed upon it.

yeah i think the japs ran out of 900's for a while and had a heap of 750 engines laying around so started puting them into these frames and they worked. (just to keep production going)

everything i have checked tells me it is all lined und running true. i get no vibration from the driveline at all, but after looking at this last uni joint it seems to me that lube is the problem or i should say serious lack of it

I guess you have no choice but to drill 'em ... Tap em and put-in a Grease fitting so you can push some grease in there.

I wouldn't leave the Zerk Fittings in the Yokes, though.

I'd close the drilled holes with Allen Headed Pipe Plugs.
Well, ... Allen Headed Plugs ... (of some kind).
The aluminum or titanium one the NOS Gas Boys use would be good.

    A little LockTite.

    Hi Guys
How did it go with the mods to the Uni joint ??
My 84 XJ750Rl has done a joint too. A new one from the Frasers cost me $350.
Seperate question for Trucker ...is your engine 45T?
    Cheers Andrew
