    Hello,

Recently, I built a YICS tool using Rick's diagram...after putting it together and making sure it fit properly I came upon a couple questions...

    1) Does it matter which side the tool is inserted into? Left or Right?

    2) Assuming that I insert the tool from the right side of the motor, does the left side plug, which seals the YICS passage, need to be in place and tight?

3)Is it advisable to "bench-sync" the carbs before doing the actual "on the bike" sync?

    Thanks for the help...

Things ive learned since i just did the same routine myself with a homemade YICS tool and syncronizer with the help of previous posts, here is a rundown.

    1) No it doesnt matter which side it is put in from, but i had better luck putting it in from the left hand side for some reason.

    2) Yes, the opposing screw needs to be in place or you will develop vacuum leak and you will never be able to tune properly. I tried to tune it to start with it out and about sucked the oil out of my syncronizer.

    3) Not neccesary, but if the carbs are off already go ahead and bench sync with a thin strip of a business card or index card under the butterflies. I ended up taking the carbs off the bikes anyway just to be sure they were clean and undamaged.

Ok, so a little more info, make very small changes and wait until the syncronizer settles before touching anything else. Start with syncronizing carbs 1&2 to even, then 3&4, then 2&3. when you set 2&3 go back and check 1&2, and 3&4 to make sure mothing has changed, when i set 2&3 it threw off my others a touch went through the whole process about 3 times before everything was hel solid. Make sure you use a good strong fan to keep that engine cool.
Hope this helps you out. If you have any questions all the information is available on other posts.
