usings a used piston during top end rebuild

    Anyone done this I have one that just looks a lil beat up. The cylinder wall is good after honing and a new piston is way over my budget after the rings and gasket kit.

    Let me know if any of you guys have done this...I can probably get pics of mine if you want to see what Im talking about. I just dont want to get it all back together much poorer to no avail in actually riding.

    As long as the "used" piston measures up to spec and is not burned or damaged I would use it. You may want to weigh it and compare to the other ones.

    To build an engine properly you measure the piston and then machine the bore to match. If you've got a used stock piston in a bore that has been honed it's likely going to be too loose.

    Only way to know for sure is to measure the piston and the bore to determine the clearance.

    Micarl is right you should mic the bore and piston to make sure its not too loose.
