Hey everyone! New guy here, just wanted to say hello and great forum!! Ok,back to the original topic, I was just wondering if anyone ever used the LED VacuumMate to syn. your carbs.? I have used the mercury style before and if you have access to the LED style, try it out! I have a good friend that owns one, they are the ticket IMO.It will tell you RPM's,vacuum and will show any problems w/ the valves-whether they are sealing or not plus it can detect intake manifold leaks. Of course they aren't cheap,he paid $1000.00 usd for his-sure glad we're friends, haha!!!

    Welcome to the site Gunner.
That vacuum mate sounds like the cats tail.
1000.00 some pretty steep tool money..... wonder if my wife would buy the story that my sync sticks are too old, wore out, lost, the dog ate them.... nope cant get myself past 1000.00 USED!!!????

Bluemaxim, I tried using those carbtune sticks a friend of mine has those and he recomended I try them out. Maybe his were broken or something, they didn't seem very sensitive and were like they would get stuck.

    OH WELL

I have ahd that happen also. Usually it either needs cleaning or just turning it upside down works. They are not as sensitive as mercury sticks.

Hey Ace take a look at that site again, the guage on the left doesnt look like the dial points to the zero reading as the other three.

Hence my trouble with guages, they are only as accurate as the calibration and the reliability of the mechanism.

Good old specific gravity and vacuum dont lie

    Just my .02

I haven't but would love to. I suspect it would have the same advantage as my electronic caliper, easily reset to zero and recalibrated. Not an advantage with the dial gauges. The dial gauges also can jump erratically making them hard to read. Given the choice, I still prefer the accuracy and sensitivity of mercury sticks. But that is only based on what I have used. These electronic babies just may be the new ticket.

I too would love to see them.
Makes me wonder if there are vendors from some of these companies that might show up a carb clinics to show off their wares.

Hey Ace, I've got those gauges and love them. JC Whitney sells them for about $45 on sale. They are the deluxe model. They are user calibrated (just set them all to the same location on the bezel/glass, it is fairly self-explainatory). I've gotten excellent results out of them for the 16+ years I've owned mine. The only down side to them that I have exprienced is teh rubber hoses drop dead within two or three years. I upgraded to silicone. I consider them an up-grade from my mercury sticks, environmentally speaking. They are on-par with the sticks in my experience (got to check them against one another way back when, no difference).
Nick, I'd be very interested in trying either of the Aerostitch units out. The CarbMate looks particularly useful. A little pricey but the cool factor is up there.

    Hi,
Pretty late to reply to this but since it's in the same vein...

I just purchased a Carbmate(TecMate) for $161AUD from The Bike Doctor(same place I bought my Metzler tyres and had them fitted in Perth, Western Australia), yesterday and am very happy at the simplicity of use and speed of synchronising the carbs.

It's a nice tool and after using the 2 bottle sync tool and sweating over the engine waiting for the fluid to rise or sink, I have to say a bit of a relief to use also.

It made rechecking the sync, after colourtuning, a piece of cake and I can see now, firsthand, just how much the sync is directly affected by altering the idle mixture screws.
