Should I bother adjusting the valves on an 1985 XJ700-XN with only 13,300 miles?

    Are you having problems ?
    Are they noisy?

If not, the only reason to open it up and check clearances would be to ease your mind. You might be able to bring things to closer tolerance, but for .001 why bother. You'd be hard pressed to get closer if you could find the right shims.

You won't know if they need adjusting, until you check the clearances.

Once you know if any of them are out of spec, and by how much, you can decide if further action is necessary at this mileage.

Remember, the gaps will diminish with mileage, so the valves will actually get less noisy with time and wear.
