Tearing my '83 XJ 750 maxim down more thatn I want too, but since I'm this far I'm trying to understand differences I've run across on the forum. The Haynes workshop manual indicates indicates intake should be 0.16 - 0.20mm for XJ650 J on both intake and exhaust. All other models show inlet .11 - 0.15mm and exhaust at 0.16-0.20mm.

It seems I read somewhere in the forum that the Haynes manual is incorrect and both inlet and exhaust valve clearances are the same. Can someone give me the straight scoop for the '83 750 maxim?

My '83 750 maxim was received with 24,000 plus miles and no history so I have no idea if the valves have ever been adjusted. Any clarification will surley be appreciated. :?

The Haynes manual is wrong. The proper valve clearances for your engine is:

    .11mm - .15mm intake
    .16mm - .20mm exhaust
