Has anyone had problems with the rubber on the cover bolts?
Are they ever deformed or flattened to a point that they don't
have enough travel to seal the valve cover?
If so, would a dab of silicone dried on the bottom of the rubber
make up for loss of height?
Maybe I'm over thinking this...

They're just hard and fossilized from old age. I replaced mine a few years ago and the oozing stopped.

The seals are still available from Yamaha, and don't cost very much.

After looking at my valve cover bolts again, I'm wondering if
I can smear a thin coat of silicone around the bottem of the
rubber to add alittle thickness while filling any deformities.

Anyone had any issues with bolt seals after changing valve cover gasket??

Or maybe new is the best ting..As you said..

Partsnmore has them for $2 apiece. You need 8. $35 minimum order. Find something else you need and place your order.
