I have read through several threads were members have spoke about the problems associated with them. However, I am about to order the part for my 92 XJ600 and wanted to know if anyone has any experience replacing them? After reading through the repaid manual and looking over the bike, I am not 100% convinced that I would need to remove the tank to replace this part.

Could anyone confirm this for me? :?:

compared to the tricky chore of installing the valve cover, pulling the tank should be 1 bolt, and 2 hoses.
It's harder to remove a turn signal !
also, you will glue the gasket to the cover first--right?
    just to make it easy--

The tank on your bike isn't all that hard to remove and it will ease your access to the valve cover. I would pull it myself. Just be sure to have a piece of carpet or a towel to rest the tank on when you remove it.

Valve rubber is a PITA. Suggest using bits of masking tape to hold the silly thing on the cover while trying to twist and turn the thing into position.. when finally 'on' pull the bits of tape out.
As always: Easier said than done.. but in my experiences this works, only other trick would be to glue the gasket into the Cover.. but doing so almost always guarantees a leak.. don't ask .

I'm going to have to respectfully disagree. Then again, it may be the 'glue' I used... red gasket sealant from the 99 cent store. A thin line of that on the cover itself holds the gasket in place nicely. Didn't put any on the head.

Thanks for the advice! I will be pulling the tank as suggested. I have never worked on a bike, but have lots of experience on my cars.
