Does anyone out there know the approx. temperature of a valve cover during normal operation? I am looking to get my valve cover plated but they need to know what normal operating temp is. Any info would be great.

    I have a 1980 XJ650 Maxim

Howdy neighbor ! Ever cruise Old Town?

Temp should never exceed 300 * , more like 250 or so. Is that chrome plated or some other coating? Any engine paint should work.

I was going to try out the Spray On Chrome. I had that done on some parts on my 69 Charger and it looks outstanding. But they say it will only withstand up to 200 degrees. There is a place in Clearwater that does it. But it doesn't look like my valve cover will get done. I checked with some plating companies and they want over $200 just to do the valve cover. I just wanted to add a little shine to it. All that gray aluminum looks a little drab, but I guess its how its gonna stay.

I havent cruised Old Town with it yet. But I didn cruise it in my General Lee 69 Charger a few times. Thanks for your help neighbor.

Mine has the factory, option chrome kit, and the chrome is peeling in places. I like the black crinkle look with polished and cleared hi-lites.
That'll take an engine removal to do right.

Many have used powder coating on their covers which cures at 400F. So it should be below that.
