So recently my valve cover started leaking on my 82 xj550 max. About 2000 miles ago I did my valves and replaced all gaskets. When I was tightening everything up one bolt wouldn't tighten up all the way. I put a dab of locktite on it and it held until now. I'm pretty sure the thread is stripped. What are my best options?

I just got back on the bike after a month off cause of a bad disk in my back. I'm gonna take in all apart clean it and see if it still leaks or not. (Which Ive got a feeling it will). Just looking for the best way to fix her up for good? The bolt is on the outside so hopefully in engine can stay on the bike.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks for reading
    Jim.

Heli-coil it. I had to do that to 4 of my 8 valve cover bolt threads. Did the rest of em while I was at it. It's a M6 P1.0 thread. Cost me $30 for the kit and I still have thread inserts to spare. No more leaks. Well, a leak cuz there was a tear in the gasket, but that was due to extreme milage lol

Good advice by all. Once you get the coils re-open this thread. There are a few helpful reminders and tips you'll need to know. The members will guide you.

Thanks for the thread size pilot.

Five thanks for the offer. But I picked it up today.

Thanks for the replies I figured it would be helicoil. I might get to it in the next day or so.
