valve shim numbers???

    today i pulled all valve shims out that were not within spec and two of them have the numbers worn off. what do i do now? micrometer?

    Yup. Well, digital vernier caliper should be fine, and easier to use.

    or toss in shims that have numbers on them and recheck

    You have a feeler gauge, ya its that simple add em up.

    it's not super tight tolerance and they come in known increments. $5 digi calipers are plenty good nuff.

    sorry SQL, ya found one of my anal retentive pet peeves.
    There's no such thing as "Digital Vernier" anything. it's one or the other.

    thanks everyone...i'm glad it's a cheap tool...especially after all the tools and parts i've had to buy to do this thing right. the pains of being a newbie!

    anyone have a shim size 240? I'm willing to swap with a spare one I have..

    I'm not having any luck finding anyone besides purchasing new. I've got plenty on hand so it'd be great to just put one in the mail with a postage stamp for a size I need. "hogfiddles" couldn't help me out

    Moellear, There is a post on the general lounge called "pay it forward" by Bill B. You can go on that one and ask for that particular size shim. There was talk on that thread about a shim swap on there and it would cost you nothing but shipping perhaps. Great idea and I have used it before and it ccost me nothing. Just a thought.
