Valve cover remomed on 83 XJ 750 maxim and valve clearances measured. I've got two exhausts just under the spec. Number two is .15mm and number four is .14mm. All others (exhaust and intake) are at minimum or better.

I was planning on adjustments next winter but just wonder if I'm seriously setting the bike up for a major problem.

    Any thoughts?

That's not seriously horrible but they are exhaust valves. Just swap 'em now; it's not that hard and you've already popped the cover. Then you'll be good for another 5K miles.

You'll need one size down from whatever's in there, for both.

Have you done the Kawi yet? If not you're probably way overdue on that one. They're easier-- screw-type adjusters.

No, I've not even looked at the kawaski yet. You're likely correct, they probably need to be adjusted.

I've actually buttoned up the maxim and put some miles on her. So I think I will put off the adjustment until winter.

    Thanks for the comments.
