    hi all.
im rebuilding my spare engine to change the one i'm using now , has anyone any tips for removing the old valve stem seals,
i've done this on 2 previous engines ,but can't remember how i did it , head is on the bench, with all valves removed, apart from using brute force and squeezing them together, i have the gasket set with new seals in.
just dont want to damage the bucket bores?

i did the brute force method, doesn't take much at all. putting the new ones on was tricky. think a dowel rod with a hole to just fit over the valve stem, counter sunk to
just catch the metal of the seal. the valve stem holds the tool on center then push the dowel to seat the seal

Yeah, they are a bit of a pain to get out. I just bent up a piece of old metal so I could hook it up under the metal casing and just pull up. As Polock says, its not that hard to get off and any damage wont matter as you are putting new ones in. The new seals go in very easy....Pretty much push them in by hand

well, got them all off today - eventually, had to resort to the brute force method ,and squashing the sides in , then squashing sides in at 90 degrees to that, eventually they gave way and came off, not before totally destroying them.
it would have been nice to save one or two, just in case, but, hey - ho
started grinding in the valves today :)
    thanks

I'm trying to source new seals. Can someone give me the stem diameter please?
The I'd of the cup at base would be nice also.
I'm in Thailand, trying to source for my XJ650 1981 MODEL SECA.
