I'm in the process of cleaning the chrome headers on my X. After a lot of elbow grease and Autosol they are looking pretty good. I was wondering if there is any way to coat the headers to protect them. There was a lot of fine rust pitting on them. I noticed that VHT has a high temp header clear coat. I would imagine it is meant to go on top of their colored header paints. I was wondering if it would stick to the chrome and would it dull the finish? Any thoughts, ideas , experience.

    Thanks

Best way to keep chrome clean is elbow grease as far as I'm concerned. S.O.S. pads, plenty of sweat and Autosol or other chrome cleaner. I think if you put the clear on you'll end up with a bigger mess to clean up later. Just sayin'.

Also when storing the bike for the winter, I use rust check(in the red can) and spray it on a rack and wipe down the exhaust. Cleans right off in the spring and keeps the rustnoff them in storage anyways. Other than that mothers chrome polish is good too.

That's because it can't be bought.

    Except maybe in third-world countries.
