I just bought this bike, love it already, but it has a distinct vibration above 5k rpms. the guy I bought it from says it may need a new cam chain tensioner but I was hoping I could adjust it first. I'm still trying to find a Clymers manual for it but I'm afraid to take it on the freeway and float a valve or break the timing chain. How do you adjust the timing chain, and would that most likely be the cause of the vibration....? thanks for any help or ideas

I believe all the 750s have automatic cam chain tensioners.

What kind of vibration do you have? There is a resonance in these that feels like a buzz in the 5.0-5.5k rpm range which is perfectly normal.

I second this... my bike has a pretty serious resonance from about 5100 to 5800 or so, kinda caught me off guard the first time i pulled it through that rpm range.

that's exactly what it feels like, a light vibration or resonance and it didn't look like there was a locknut type pf adjustment on the chain tensioner. I just didn't want to ruin an otherwise great bike without looking into it. Thanks for the help

the speedo say just under 14k but the cable was kinked and not working when I bought it. seller said it was only broke for about 100 miles but you never know. supposedly the entire bottom end was rebuilt last year and the top end and carbs this year before I got it. It does look especially clean and runs very tight so I am inclined to believe at least most of what he told me

I ccan't imagine why the whole bottom end would have needed a rebuild at under 15 thousand miles.

Most bikes go three times that before needing rings and such.

You'll know how well the Carbs were cleaned when you try and get it tuned-up.
If it Idles nice, I'd say they did a good job.
If the Idle need help ... thats another story!
