Yep, and that's Dwayne Verhey (Master Yoda) doing the work at one of their carb clinics.

So, at about 3:45 when he's whacking away at the side of the cylinder with the deadblow, is that a cooling fin breaking off that makes him say whoops? With all do respect to those in the video, this really seems to be brute force mechanic-ing. 8O

I, too, was appalled at the quick & dirty techniques. Was he really trying to pull out a piston pin with a screwdriver and NEEDLE NOSE PLIERS???!!!!!!!! After bending the circlips, no less. And, yes, I believe he knocked off a fin. I was wondering if that would happen. And you'd think they could afford a real valve spring compressor rather than whacking on a socket with a magnet and/or a C-clamp? Motion Pro DOES make one, you know.
Now I know why it takes me so much longer to fix my bikes than at a shop.

Well I just found it and post it here,I didn't titled it .
Maybe it just shows how to Disassembly a bad engine for spare parts that shows no damage.(due to disassembly).
Or "This is the wrong way".
I seen part 2 and 3 ,you want to see something funny.I'll dig them up and post them.

Well it shows what is inside an engine and trany anyway.

Sure, post 'em up. Any information about how to disassemble an engine is always good to have... even if the techniques employed are somewhat brutal. ;)

I was impressed by the teetering pile of wood blocks under the engine.

Also the nonchalant way they just kinda tossed the head on the concrete floor.

I'm pretty sure they weren't just scavenging parts. Remember, one of them mentioned not needing to pull the wrist pin to put new rings on..

Keep in mind this is the man with his own fleet of running XJ's that he's the senior mechanic for (whole family rides, and his personal XJ is over 300,000 kms), and he has yet to break something he can't fix :)

I was personally there for that footage, and yes things were done a bit "quick and dirty", but the engine being used was a donor so he wasn't being as careful as normal.

Oh - and the wood blocks were because there wasn't any other room left in the shops! There were some 25 other XJ's around in various stages of repair/tuning, so space was at a premium....

Yamyboy - Duane lives just outside of Huntsville, and yes he works for Toronto Fire (mainly in Dundas), and yes he commutes, and yes - he's nuts.

He has a yearly XJ "Carb Clinic" at his place in early summer -- head on over to the email list (via micapeak.com) and I'm sure you'll hear about it.

The first thing you are supposed to do with a Piston Wrist-Pin C-clip after prying or pulling it out of its holding grooves is:

    Throw it away.
    You don't re-use them!

    There's quick and dirty.
    Quick and filthy.
    And just plain filthy.

I'd have to grade that Video ... "Filthy"

    I use a Porta-Power Jaws to bring-off Cylinder Blocks.
    No hammering.
And I never have a screwdriver in my hand unless taking-out of puttin'-in a screw.

"Other than that, How'd you enjoy tonight's performance at The Ford Theater, Mrs. Lincoln"?
