    Hi all.
My brother died at Christmas and left me his 95' Virago 750 which is almost mint with just 7000 miles on the clock but the exhaust system is wrecked. I have replacement parts but can't figure out how to remove the rear pipe and the manual is useless. Anyone know how it's done or know of a site similar to this where I will be able to pick someones brains. My xj700 is off the road again with clutch problems so while I wait for parts to turn up I'd like to sort the Virago out.

Sorry to hear about your brother, my best friend passed away the same time.

To remove the rear exhaust pipe you will have to take the rear wheel off. Then it will come right out. Having the wheel off will also help infitting the new exhaust. Look through the manual ot see the procedure, if you don't have one they are available on the net for free download. viragotech.com has them .

Sorry to hear about your brother. Is the rear pipe bad or just the muffler. The only way to get the rear pipe out is to loosen the clamps to the front pipe and the rear pipe at the muffler pull the bolt that goes up thru the muffler that bolts it to the frame. Pull back on the muffler you might have to wiggle it a bit but has to come off. Remove the 2 exhaust stud nuts and the pipe will come right out thru the bottom . Its kind of strange the rear pipe is smaller then the front. Its really easy. Takes less then 15 min to remove the whole exhaust and bolt on headers. But you have to lay on the ground to find the mounting bolt. I changed them out on both of my viragos when i had them

Thinking about it, if I remember correctly, you have an issue with the rear pipe going up through the centerstand area. I've found it easier to keep the bike on the side stand, remove the center stand temporarily, pull the exhaust, then when you're done, put the centerstand back on.

I did mine on the side stand. On the 1100 i had to remove the stand and leave it off but the pipes i put on were different then every pipe i have ever seen

The problem is that the flange that holds the pipe to the cylinder is too big to pass back through the frame and the studs won't allow the pipe to come out through the front. I have the centre stand of but that hasn't helped.

I'll try the viragotech site and the owners club and see if there's any help there.

    Thanks for all the suggestions.
