Voltage regular - OEM vs aftermarket

My motorcycle shop recommended I might try to change my regulator/rectifier unit to fix the 'lazy' charging. they checked the brushes on the alternator and a few tests ($540 of repairs later) and determined the last variable was the regulator/rectifier.

I see that the original regulator part is: 3G1-81960-A1-00. Has anyone experienced bad or good things with an aftermarket part, i.e: http://www.bikebandit.com/aftermark...orsport-electric-rectifier-regulator?m=147135

OEM: $247
AFtermarket: $104

Ouch...that is why I do my own work!!! if the Shop charged you 540 $ and it is still not fixed , you need to talk to them about it.. this is wrong. If you have to try a voltage regulator, I'm sure you can find one on eBay cheap. I would not buy new unless you know 100% that is issue.

how does your connector look?
have you cleaned your grounds from motor to frame and battery.
then the VR ground which is up at coil packs? at least on a 550 it is.
