Voltmeter

    Hi,all,just replaced my guages unit for a mph one,the original is in km,the voltmeter was acting up,fluctuating quite bad,put the new one on and it`s still the same,charging system is working fine,alt brushes are new,new battery,new fuse box etc,anyone know what could be causing this?maybe i could connect a differen power supply lead to the voltmeter?

    I would check for corrosion at the fuse box and that the battery connections are tight.

    Do you have a separate multimeter to measure the voltage? You might have a bad regulator or a failed diode in the rectifier circuitry, either one could be checked with a multimeter.

    Especially if both gauges show the same anomaly in the electrical circuit should you be concerned. I definitely would be searching for the problem before it gets worse or spreads.

    Hi.all,thanks for the replies,all electrics have been checked and are functioning fine! thats the mystery.voltmeter works fine untill over 12v then just wobbles about!
