    Something to consider:

The Honda Rebel weighs 331 lbs, WET (full of gas and oil.) Less "dry" of course.

The Suzuki Savage weighs 352 lbs, dry.

The Yamaha 750 Maxim weighs 493 lbs, dry.

The weight of the bike is one of the main considerations when choosing rear shocks. Rebel or Savage shocks will not have the appropriate spring rates or damping characteristics for a bike that weighs at least 140 lbs more.

While they may "fit" length-wise; they will not provide proper suspension control at the rear for a bike as heavy as yours.

This is not often taken into consideration by those espousing this particular mod. You're better off buying a shorter shock that is sprung and damped correctly for your heavier bike.

I definitely wouldn't use the Rebel shocks. The Savage shocks have been used by a few people without complaint. Most of those people's bikes were bobbers and didn't have passengers. So if you want to carry an occasional passenger, you may want to go with a bigger shock.
All this is just guess work without knowing the Max Load Capacity of said shocks.
A good estimate formula might be: Weight of bike (that the shocks came off of) + 300 to 350lbs.(for 2 riders or 1 with cargo) = Max Load Capacity.

Right. Just right for a 330 pound bike; not a nearly 500 pound bike.

Thanks for the link racegeek, I think I can get those on ebay for a few bucks cheaper but was hoping to find something used in the $20-40 range.

Thanks for the advice but, uh... anybody got 'em? 8)

I actually think the 750 max (at least an 83) weighs in at 524 curb weight if i recall correctly.

So the Savage shocks should work on a Max bobber with 1 rider.
    Savage weight 352 + 350 riders =702lbs.
    Max weight 524(unless stuff has been cut off) + 180 1 rider = 704lbs.

    Rebel weight 331 + 350 = 681lbs.
I'd go with the Savage shocks if no passengers are involved.
