Apparently XJ550 Seca tanks are like unicorn poop but if anyone comes across one that's in decent condition I'd be happy to take it off your hands for a fair price.

I'd also happily trade them my '81 Maxim tank that's in good condition.

    Thanks
    R./

It depends on your definition of "decent condition."

I have one; it has light-to-moderate interior rust that a phosphoric acid flush would cure; and it also has a couple dozen tiny dings on the right side from where the bike must have fallen over onto a pile of gravel. They're not mere stone chips; they're tiny dents that could be easily filled if you're looking at stripping and repainting. The interior rust is just surface rust, it's not rusted through anywhere or anything, the tank is solid.

I was keeping it with the thought of doing up a spare set of "tins" someday to swap out with my stock colors; but I've since traded away my spare front fender and probably will keep the bike stock anyway. So I might entertain selling it; PM me if interested and I'll see if I have any pics.

Not sure about it though - I'd prefer one that's at least ready to bolt on and go so still open to others.

Just to keep this fresh, I'm still in the market for a XJ550 SECA tank...

Will the '81 Maxim Tank fit on an '82? If so, I'd love to see some pictures.

    It's a 550. I just wasn't sure if there's a difference in the tank between an '81 and '82

Oh, ok, no. No difference except maybe color.

The 550s, '81 ~'83, Maxim or Seca, stayed the same except for "trim" and color differences. The biggest change was the deletion of the fairing on the Seca for '83.

    Cool, thanks.

OP, if you want to sell your current tank, I'd be interested to see what you want for it.
