Looking for an XJ550 to restore, I raced one back in the WERA days and would like to restore one back to superbike status.

Decide how far you want to travel and then start trolling Craigs' List. They pop up every now and then although they do seem to be getting rarer.

That's a good idea, thanks. I'm going to two salvage yards this morning to see what kind of parts I can find.

What did you do to the bike to make it race ready? I can see a dual disk setup, new shocks and pipe.

Gosh RangerG, the list was quite long and my memory quite short that was 27 years ago. I'll give you the short list. Front springs, dual disc, fork brace, Aftermarket rear shoks, Yosh pipe, Yosh cams big bore kit, GS750 carbs with custom mounts, valve job after mkt valve springs, no starter and put the bike on a weight loss diet. Many regional and national wins over its life.

    Hey Thrasher,
I have a 1981 XJ Maxim 550. I got it from a guy that bought it new and took very good care of it. It took awhile for me to work out a few bugs in the electrical system. I had it nearly perfect then I went to put a new starter in and ran into a glitch. If you are mechanically inclined it shouldn't be that hard to get going. I just do not have garage to work in. It should go to someone like you, who will really appreciate it. Give me a call and we can talk about it. Ricksta Ph. # 505-412-0385
