how long do think it should take an xj550 to warm up in 50 degree weather on a moderate traffic road, to where i shouldnt need any choke, without much of a pre warmup?

Less then a minute if it is properly tuned.

I agree less than a minute if carbs are set up right.

Only sorta. Both of my 550s are properly tuned and maintained; and while you CAN take the choke off within about a minute or two of driveway warmup and ride away, it does take a few miles (about 5~6) before the motor gains its full "snap" without any enrichment. I think it's partly due to the fact that the YICS passages are larger in proportion to the intake tracts than they are on the bigger bikes that makes them a bit more "cold blooded."

However, if your 550 Seca is taking inordinately long to warm up, and your valves and carbs are fine, check the condition of this thing: http://xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=31872.html
