I'm having starting issues with my 82 550 maxim. It'll turn over fully choked then I have to let it warm up slowly taking the choke off for at least 5 minutes. After that it runs fine I can turn it off and it'll start right back up. If it stalls out from taking the choke off too soon it won't start back up no matter what I do. I've cleaned the carbs thoroughly using the info on this site to do so. My spark seems really weak. I checked the ignition and pick up coil resistance and all is within spec. Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Battery? Mine was fussy till I topped her off with distilled water.

    Jumping to run now.

    How old spark plugs?

Check to see that all cylinders are warming up together. Put your hand on each one (exhaust pipe ) to see if one / some don't warm up at same rate.

Maybe you have resistor plugs, and have resistors in the plug caps? You'll have to verify ( or others ) here cause I know not if you have one or the other. Just thinking out loud . . .

Also, for troubleshooting, has this started recently? last tank? maybe month or so?
