Dumb question. Does anyone have any idea of how much a "dry" 750 engine weighs? Got it out of the bike (a lot easier than I thought!) and am building a stand. I have seen in a couple of other threads where other people had built simple, yet very effective stands, but I am concerned about the weight. Also, it seems that the holes through the engine mounts are only approximately 3/8" bolt clearance holes. Obviously the bike uses all metric bolts, but just putting a rule across it, it's slightly over 3/8", perhaps a .406" (3/8" clearance). At my work we make much use of 3/8" solid rod for fabrication as well as 3/8" threaded rod. I'm not comfortable at all with the 3/8" threaded rod, but any opinions/options/advice on the solid 3/8" rod or other ideas? Also, if anyone has any pictures, or descriptions of their stands, I'd definately appreciate it! Thanks guys!

i'll take a wild guess at 125 to 150 lbs
the 2 front mounts and the exhaust collector bracket make a good 3 point stand with some wood blocks, it's pretty stable
and it will bend 3/8 drill rod 2 feet long :(

Hmm, that would be 25% of the total weight of 520lbs, must be more than that I would have thought.

WOW! When my buddy and I humped it out of there, we could've sworn 70 - 90 pounds at the most. Just didn't feel that heavy for some reason. Bummed to hear that it'll bend 3/8" rod, but thanks for the info! I'll have to modify my design.

The 650 and 750 would be very close to the same weight and I just weighed a 650 motor. The weight of the motor was very close to 180 lbs.

I am going to make use of the front upper mount holes and the lower rear bracket mounts for the stand, just going to have to figure out how to add more support. 180 pounds! Man, I am HORRIBLE at guesstimating weight! It definately did not feel that heavy.

I was thinking 180 LBS, about what a tranny weighs.
Did you see my "motor loader?"

    http://www.xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic ... oader.html

This thing will slide a motor right in and out of an XJ's frame.
    One man job. No sweat.
Shipping a rental unit would be a problem.
It would have to be a fold down aluminum job. And very strong.

I have the perfect motor stand Idea... I have the frame from the bike I parted out, no title for the frame and some cutting tools... I have been contemplating cutting the frame so I could use it as an engine stand. I would just have to give it legs to stand on. After all there would be no custom making involve for the motor mounts. Everything lines up already!

Now THAT'S an idea! When you're ready to package and sell them, sign me up! That's something I hadn't thought of is getting the engine back in without scratching the fresh paint on the frame. By the way, you're making me ridiculously jealous with the picture of your bike with your title, your Seca is exactly what mine looked like (color, fairing, bags, and trunk) before I took it apart, and HOPEFULLY will look like when I put it back together! Thanks everyone for the input!

That is also an AWESOME idea! There's no better stand than the one that was built for the engine to bolt into!

Maybe you've been working out too much lately and it just seems light...
