Today I was at my local cycle salvage yard poking around and I saw this thing sitting out front. I have no idea what it is. I asked a few of the guys there and they said that it was a 900, but that's all they knew. Apparently it belonged to someone there because it had just been ridden and the ignition was on with the headlight burning. I did the owner a favor and turned it off, even though I know it's a little rude to touch other people's bikes.

Anyway, the first thing I noticed was that it has my Seca 650 gas tank and guages. Actually, the whole front end seems to be Seca 650. The middle bit gets tricky as there's no downtube, just lots of v-twin. It has an XJ rear wheel, and I think that taillight is from a Seca 900, right?

It looks like this thing is mostly stock (or at least all Yamaha) except for that exhaust and fender. Does anybody know what it is?

    Looks like a 920 Virago. 81 or 82 I believe.

    **EDIT**

    It's not an XJ. It's an XV920.

    **EDIT AGAIN**

Sorry, I thought the XVs were Viragos. Thanks for straightening me out.

Not a Virago, its a 1981 or 1982 Yamaha XV920 RH Euro. Yamaha's stab at the BMW continental type bike. Looks like this one has the Mac 2:1 pipe. Really decent bikes but if you think XJ parts are scarce, try finding RH parts. I would ride one if i could find one. Enclosed chain drive, decent handling and V twin torque. cruzerjd

I saw a red one and it said "SECA" on the side covers
    it's a 920 and enclosed chain.

Know why Yamaha gave the Virago its XV Model lettering.

You have to go back to ancient Rome for the answer.

It's because after you know about the Starter Springs and Idler gear problems you wouldn't touch one with a 15 Foot Pole. (XV feet)

I think it almost looks like this is a custom job myself....

Frame, Engine, & Drivetrain from an XV920 Virago
Front end, Tank, and seat from a Seca

If that was factory (as a Euro model) I'm kinda intrigued now...

Isn't that front tire backwards? Doesn't look right.

LOL. I was just talking to someone about this yesterday. Looking at a Metzeler tire on one of my bikes, he says, those always look backwards to me. We checked the arrow just to be sure

At least I know what it is now. I wish I could have talked to the owner. He may have been inside searching for some scarce part. :)
