I'm fixing up my 1981 maxim 650 and found that many of the parts aren't manufactured anymore and am looking to purchase a second bike to use for parts. Problem is I can only find 82' maxims in my area. What are the main differences between the bike parts (if any). Mainly looking to get the front brake caliper and retaining clips. Any info would be much appreciated!

81 was non- YICS, 82 was YICS. So there are differences with the heads, intake boots, and there was som difference in the engine\tranny internals too. Otherwise, outside there are very monir differences, all of which can be swapped around.

82 was YICS head. Brought along changes to the carburetor holders, air box boots, carburetors and cylinder head cover and fasteners.

    82 had air assist forks.

82 had automatic cam chain tensioner.

    82 had side stand switch/relay.

    82 had electronic tach.

    Otherwise, they're the same.
